This bill amends the sales tax law to prohibit the distribution of tobacco sales tax revenue to any community that enacts an ordinance that restricts smoking. Currently, 18% of the total sales tax revenue collected in a municipality is paid back to the municipality. This bill could have a preemptive effect on communities by discouraging them from enacting smokefree laws and penalizing those that already have laws.
