SB1809 - (workplaces, restaurants and bars) - An Act relating to public health and safety - Session Adjourned

This bill amends the current state law to require all workplaces, restaurants and bars to be smokefree by deleting many current exemptions, including those for smoking rooms and for all stand-alone bars and taverns. No restaurant may continue to have a smoking room after September 1, 2012 and no restaurant may add a smoking room after September 1, 2010. Additional removed exemptions include charitable bingo games; 25% of hotel/motel rooms; retail tobacco stores; family-operated workplaces; smoker-only workplaces not open to the public; and private offices of workplaces.

EXEMPTIONS: Smoking is allowed in cigar bars; workplaces within private residences except when used as a child care facility during hours of operation; armed forces’ private clubs; outdoor seating areas of restaurants; medical research or treatment facilities; educational facilities during the hours of 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
