Imagine being in a bar without smelling the smell of cigarette smoke. One state senator wants that to become a reality. But, not everyone is supporting his two proposed bills.

For many Acadiana residents, a trip to the bar usually involves drinking and smoking. But two bills being pitched to the senate could put a stop to that.

Senate bills 334 and 348 would prohibit smoking in bars and casinos. Local bar owners, such as Shannon Wilkerson of the Bulldog, don't support the proposed legislation.

"A lot of people like to come out, have a few beers, smoke, a lot of our customers are smokers and I'm not in support of the bill at all" says Wilkerson.

Health wise, the ban would be a plus for non smokers and those working behind the bar. But, bar owners we spoke with tell us those bills passing would hurt business.
