The Indiana House Health Committee will take testimony Wednesday on legislation that would impose a comprehensive, statewide smoking ban.

House Bill 1018, authored by state Rep. Charlie Brown, D-Gary, would ban smoking in all workplaces, including bars, restaurants and casinos.

The committee will meet after the House adjourns on Wednesday, probably sometime after 3 p.m. The meeting will be in the House chamber. The bill is available at www.in.gov/legislative.

The committee is expected to consider whether to add some exclusions to the bill that could allow smoking to continue in casinos and other locations.

The House has passed smoking ban bills four times, sometimes with exceptions for bars and casinos. The bills have died in the Senate, but supporters hope the legislation could get a hearing in that chamber this year.
