Legislative Summary

HB1441 - (exempt and preempt smoking permits) - A bill relating to smoking - Session Adjourned

This bill amends the smokefree law by establishing a smoking permit program to allow smoking in businesses holding class 5, class 6, or class 11 liquor licenses (bar, club, or cabaret). Establishments with smoking permits must post signs bearing the symbol of a green circle encasing a lit cigarette—which is signage preferred by the tobacco industry to indicate that smoking is acceptable. This bill is preemptive and would not permit county smokefree ordinances from applying to places that have smoking permits.
