Legislative Summary

HB1469 - (preemptive bar exemption) - An Act relating to smoking - Re-referred to Committee on Health and Committee on Consumer Protection - Did not meet crossover deadline

This bill amends the smokefree law to allow smoking in bars and nightclubs that choose to post “smoking allowed” signs. Establishments that allow smoking must post signs bearing the symbol of a green circle encasing a lit cigarette—which is signage preferred by the tobacco industry to indicate that smoking is acceptable. This bill is preemptive and would not permit county smokefree ordinances from applying to places that have smoking permits.
