Legislative Summary

SB990 - (e-cigarettes, workplaces) - An Act Concerning Smoking Policies And Prohibiting Smoking In Certain Areas - Session Adjourned

This bill prohibits the use of e-cigarettes in places that are required to be smokefree, and prohibits smoking within 25 feet of public buildings, restaurants, and schools. The bill also changes the provisions applying to places of employment, but does not require places of employment to be smokefree. Current law states that workplaces with five or more employees may permit smoking in separately ventilated smoking rooms, and workplaces with five or fewer employees must have a non-smoking area. This bill would eliminate the exemption for workplaces with five or fewer employees, and amend the remaining language to state that workplaces with one or more employees must be smokefree “except that an employer may designate one or more smoking rooms.”
