Legislative Summary

HB1235 - (age-restricted venues) - An act relative to criminal offenses - Session Adjourned

This bill weakens the state’s smokefree law. The law allows smoking in "age restricted venues," which are defined as establishments that restricts access at all times to people who are age 21 or older. This bill would weaken the law by saying that the definition does not include employees, vendors, service providers, or performers in age restricted venues. Thus, this bill even further weakens the state’s partial smokefree protections by allowing smoke-filled restaurants and bars to employ people under age 21.
