California tobacco control bills sent to Gov. Brown

Publication Date: 2016-04-23

Great news! California's six tobacco control bills were sent to Governor Brown for his signature on Friday April 22, and he has 12 days to act.

The state legislature approved the bills on March 10, but it took six weeks for them to reach the Governor’s desk. The delay was a strategic move to ward off tobacco industry threats of retaliation for signing the bills.

Please call Governor Brown at (916) 445-2841 to ask him to sign all six tobacco control bills into law. You can also email the Governor if you prefer.

The Governor needs to hear from constituents like you who support these bills, because he has been hearing from tobacco industry lobbyists who are looking to protect their revenue and influence. If you've already contacted him, thank you!

The six bills include ones to close many loopholes in the smokefree workplace law, prohibit the use of e-cigarettes in smokefree spaces, and increase the age of sale for tobacco products from 18 to 21.

Thanks for taking action for a healthier California!
