Burlington recently banned smoking in bars. So did South Burlington and Winooski.

Now, some lawmakers say, the Legislature should take the logical next step and prohibit bar smoking statewide...

Vermont in 1993 banned smoking in restaurants and most public places but created a "cabaret exemption" for businesses that make more than 50 percent of their money from alcohol sales and entertainment or bar areas that have separate ventilation.
