Think of the House setback on passing a statewide smoking ban as the last gasp of opposition to a reasonable public health decision for all Minnesotans...

It is past time for restaurants and bars to join the other smoke-free workplaces in Minnesota. And it is past time for all Minnesotans to enjoy going out to eat without having to plot and plan for a destination that has no blue haze wafting from the smoking section. As local governments try to craft local smoking bans, it is evident that the citizen demand and the public health arguments have galvanized cities and counties. What's missing is leadership from the state.
