Bill would clear way for smoking ban

A state legislator has introduced a bill that would let Mecklenburg County pass a smoking ban in its bars and restaurants.

Rep. Martha Alexander, D-Mecklenburg, filed the bill Monday. It would exempt Mecklenburg from a state law that prohibits counties from passing such measures.
