County prefers statewide ban

Udovich's biggest concern is that Dakota County -- or the state of Minnesota -- will follow Hennepin and Ramsey counties' lead and implement a smoking ban.

For now, however, Dakota County and its cities are not jumping into the fray. The cities largely have placed the issue in the county's lap, and the county thus far has deferred to the state.

The Dakota County Board has twice passed resolutions, most recently in August, affirming its belief that any smoking ban should come from the state.
