The less smoking that occurs the better; it is proven dangerous. And nonsmokers do not deserve to be put at risk - even a small risk - by smokers. That is why we support the legislative effort to ban smoking statewide in public buildings.

The ban would eliminate smoking in bars, restaurants, casinos and bowling alleys, including public buildings that have not been made smoke-free by local authorities. Government buildings (which include public college buildings) have been smoke-free for some time.

It is best for the health of all Coloradans to enact a statewide ban. The Senate, where resistance is expected, should vote to support Senate Bill 207, the Colorado Clean Indoor Act.
