EDITORIAL: It's time to ban smoking in all public places

We encourage the Iowa Legislature to increase the tax on cigarettes.

There's nothing but good to be gained from such a move. It would help replenish some state funds, and just as important, the added cost could give smokers the incentive to quit.

At the same time, we'd like to renew our call for the banning of smoking in all public places. There are all sorts of good things about this proposal, too.

The biggest concern is the danger of second-hand smoke.
