Public Urged to Show Support for Smoke-Free Dining

The Washington State Department of Health today announced the state's first-ever Smoke-Free Sunday, happening this Sunday, May 15, 2005. The department is urging people to show their support for smoke-free dining by going out to a smoke-free restaurant. As part of Smoke-Free Sunday, the department's Tobacco Prevention and Control Program is also encouraging all restaurants to try going smoke-free for the day.

"Studies prove people in our state overwhelmingly prefer smoke-free dining," said Terry Reid, Director of the Tobacco Prevention and Control Program. "We are confident that Smoke-Free Sunday will show business owners that customers support smoke-free restaurants."
