SUCO, Hartwick already have policy in effect

Students at colleges in New York won't be allowed to light up in their dorm rooms under a bill expected to be voted on by the state Assembly as early as today.

Although many colleges and universities in New York prohibit smoking in dorms and residential halls, the bill would make all dorms at public and private colleges smoke-free.

If the bill becomes law, however, it won't have any effect on area colleges, which are one step ahead of lawmakers.

The State University College at Oneonta and Hartwick College prohibit smoking in all dorms.
