Stricter smoking ban moves forward

Smokers would not be able to light up in restaurant dining rooms or in cars while traveling with young children under legislation approved by lawmakers Tuesday.

This is the second year in a row that Sen. Rob Marionneaux has fought for the passage of a no-smoking ban in most public places.

This year, he won the battle in the Senate but saw his bill amended to exclude enclosed bars within restaurants.

Senate Bill 742 now moves to the House.
