Some folks want to stamp out their parents' butts - in the car at least.

A handful of people testified at the state House Transportation Committee hearing Tuesday in support of a bill that would make it illegal to expose children to secondhand smoke while in a vehicle.

"Government has a responsibility to advocate the right to those children," said Rep. John Moolenaar, R-Midland, who introduced House Bill 5407.

The bill would protect children under age 18.

Arkansas is the only state with a law similar to Michigan's anti-smoking proposal, Moolenaar said.
