Despite the recent failing of House Bill 1177, a statewide ban on smoking in restaurants, Dover’s Barley Pub decided to become smoke-free as of Monday, May 1.

Due to health concerns for his staff, his patrons and himself, owner Scott Mason decided to be one of the first long-established bars in the area to go smoke free.

"I know that this move seems risky considering that we are a well-known smoking establishment; however, the long term benefits for my staff and for my customers outweigh any potential backlash."

Mason recently testified at the N.H. Senate Finance Committee hearing supporting House Bill 1177. Mason stands behind his belief that the state should ban smoking in bars and restaurants, thus the move is natural.
