Supporters of smoking ban receive partial victory in court

A Carson City district judge handed a partial victory Monday to those seeking to ban indoor smoking, rejecting a challenge that their ballot measure was unconstitutional but ruling the smoking ban would include Nevada hotel and motel rooms.

Judge Bill Maddox denied a lawsuit by the gaming industry, bar owners and convenience store owners that sought to declare the ballot measure unconstitutional. The ruling cleared the way for the Nevada Clean Indoor Air Act to go before voters Nov. 7.
