Caldwell lawmaker will try again to ban smoking at bowling alleys, one of the few public places exempted from the Idaho Clean Indoor Air Act.

Similar efforts in the past have failed.

The House Health and Welfare Committee approved the proposed ban on Tuesday.

Rep. Robert Ring, R-Caldwell, said that although many bowling alleys voluntarily ban smoking, legislation is needed because tobacco smoke in bowling alleys turns away families, schools and contributes to obesity in children.
