Smoking Ban Bill May Force Reworking Of Local Ordinances

Later this week, the Senate may take a bill that gives local governments the authority to restrict smoking in public places...

A second bill making it legal for cities to ban smoking in public areas is also making its way through the Senate.

The city of Ames still has a ban on the books but it cannot enforce it.

If the Legislature takes action, Ames' ban would not immediately go back into effect.

Depending on the state's legislation, the local ordinance that bans smoking during certain hours would likely have to be reworked.
