Two state senators and three state assemblymen will join with the Wisconsin Restaurant Association, the American Cancer Society and others in backing a bill that would require smoke-free work environments in Wisconsin.

The bill will be announced at a press conference in Madison on Wednesday. Supporters said five business associations will pledge their support of the so-called Breathe Free Wisconsin Act.

Already on record as supporting the bill are the restaurant association, the Cancer Society, individual restaurateurs from around the state, Smoke Free Wisconsin, the American Lung Association of Wisconsin, the American Heart Association and the Wisconsin Medical Society.

Legislators who will introduce the bill are Sen. Fred Risser (D-Madison), Sen. Carol Roessler (R-Oshkosh), Rep. Jon Richards (D-Milwaukee), Rep. Mark Gottlieb (R-Port Washington) and Rep. Steve Wieckert (R-Appleton).
