Senate Committee puts off on smoking ban vote

A Senate committee delayed a vote Wednesday on a proposed statewide smoking ban in all workplaces.

Maureen Busalacchi of Smoke-Free Wisconsin blames the stalled state budget for the hold-up.

The Senate's Public Health Committee now says it will wait until mid-October to take up the proposed smoking ban.

Busalacchi remains confident it will pass and she doesn’t think the current support will erode in a month's time.

She says the Legislature can only handle one hot-button issue at a time and for now, it's the budget.

But in the meantime, Busalacchi says Wisconsin is becoming what she calls "the ashtray of the Midwest."
