Local health officials describe the new smoking ban as an "overall positive" experience since the ban went into effect Feb. 1.

Brian Dicken, director of environmental health at the Allegany County Health Department, said his office has gotten "one or two" calls of businesses violating the ban since then.

"There wasn't anything to them," Dicken told the Allegany County commissioners during Thursday's meeting. "We did an inspection, they had their signs up and there was no smoking. We were a little leery in the beginning, but so far it's been overall positive."
