Action Alert

Wyoming is one step closer to becoming 100% smokefree.

Publication Date: 2008-12-03

On Monday, the Health Labor and Social Services Joint Committee voted overwhelmingly in support for a smokefree law that covers all non-hospitality workplaces, including restaurants and bars by a 11-3 vote. The bill will now go before the 2009 Wyoming Legislature as a committee bill. The implementation date would be July 1, 2009 (with bars being implemented on January 1, 2010).

We passed over this first hurdle in large part because of smokefree advocates, like you! This is just the beginning. To keep the momentum going, please take a moment to THANK your representative on the committee who voted in support of the smokefree bill. Don't see your rep? Please call one or two of them anyway, and let me know who you called so I can keep a tally.

  • Encourage them to stay strong through debate - voting down any and all loopholes - because everyone deserves the right to breathe clean air.
  • Express support for taking the bill one step further by making all workplaces, including bars, 100% smokefree on the same date. A blanket implementation date promises simple, strong, and fair protection for all workers, business owners, and enforcing agencies.
