SB215 - (exemptions; clarifications) - AN ACT concerning public health - Identical bill signed by Governor
This bill amends the Smoke Free Illinois Act to create several exemptions. 1) Smoking is allowed at enclosed laboratories not open to the public at a university or government facility where the activity of smoking is exclusively conducted for the purpose of medical or scientific health-related research, 2) Retail tobacco stores, which are exempt, would include an enclosed workplace that manufactures, imports, or distributes tobacco or tobacco products, 3) common smoking rooms would be allowed in long-term care facilities operated under the authority of the Department of Veterans' Affairs. The bill also provides very specific citation and hearing requirements for violators of the law.
