South Dakota's gubernatorial candidates clashed in a debate Thursday night about the federal health care overhaul and embryonic stem cell research, but both said they support banning smoking indoors and oppose medical marijuana.

Lt. Gov. Dennis Daugaard, a Republican, joined the Democratic candidate, Senate Minority Leader Scott Heidepriem, during a forum hosted by the South Dakota State Medical Association. They'll face off Nov. 2 to replace Republican Gov. Mike Rounds, who is prevented by term limits from running for re-election...

On the two ballot issues that South Dakota voters will be asked in November, both candidates said they support a proposed indoor smoking ban but oppose allowing the use of medical marijuana.
