An anti-smoking bill that a group of Williston students testified on was given a "Do Not Pass" recommendation last week.

Four ninth-graders traveled to Bismarck to testify on Jan. 21 before the North Dakota House Transportation Committee on HB 1150.

The text of HB 1150, in part, reads:

"It is unlawful for the operator or any passenger in a motor vehicle to ignite or smoke a cigarette, pipe, cigar, or other combustible material if an individual under thirteen years of age is present in the vehicle, regardless of whether a window of the motor vehicle is down or whether the vehicle is parked or on private property."

The Transportation Committee voted last Friday to assign a "Do Not Pass" recommendation to HB 1150 before placing it on the legislative calendar. The "Do Not Pass" was approved by a 9-5 vote.
