Legislative Summary

B19-203 - (Cigar event exemption) - Special Events Exemption Amendment Act of 2011 - Amendment language vetoed by Mayor; original amendment retained

An amendment to the district budget bill would create an exemption for a hotel to allow cigar smoking during a special event on one day once a year for a $2,500 fee. It was amended to state that employees may opt out of working the special event without penalty. The bill was amended to tighten the exemption to apply only to hotels with a special event capacity of more than 500 people, but that language was vetoed by the Mayor on 8/2/2011 and the original amendment exempting 79 hotels was retained.
