This broad preemption bill prohibits all local governments from adopting new regulations on any business, profession, or occupation unless the regulation is expressly authorized by general law. Florida has preempted the regulation of smoking in its Clean Indoor Air Law since 1985, but communities have adopted many laws restricting e-cigarette use and sales, and some communities have adopted smokefree outdoor air laws.
