Now, a bill is before the state House that would require restaurants to designate part of their dining areas to non-smokers. . . .

While not perfect, the proposed legislation is a significant first step. People who pay good money for a nice meal should not have to put up with a cloud of smoke hovering over their table.

Smokers, even if they are in establishments that permit smoking, should show respect to others by refraining from smoking while in the restaurant.

Smart restaurant owners will be proactive and ban smoking completely. We bet they will gain more customers than they'll lose.
