The state Senate will not vote today on an anti-smoking bill that would outlaw cigarette smoking in restaurants, bars and casinos.

State Sen. Joseph Vitale, D-Middlesex, said he wants more time to discuss the bill with his colleagues, hoping to improve its chances of success.

After the Senate Health Committee released the bill last week, Vitale hoped to put it on today's agenda. Now, he says, it would be too hasty to put the bill up for a vote when legislators have many questions they want answered.
