Most women don't exactly love being honked at.

Not the ladies gathered on the corner at 13th Street and Washington Avenue on Thursday. They hooted and hollered every time a blaring car whizzed past.

In their hands, the women -- accompanied by their children and a few men -- waved signs proclaiming, "Honk if you support smoke-free Colorado."

"We thought it would be fun to do it on St. Patrick's Day because Ireland is smoke free," said Mo Lukens of Friends of Smoke-Free Golden...

While Friends of Smoke-Free Golden initially set their sights on converting the city, statewide smoking news has led them to shift their focus.

"With the state going smoke-free, that's darn exciting," Lukens said. "Now we're going to channel our efforts to encouraging people to call their representatives in the House and Senate at the state level."

State legislators congregated on the state Capitol steps in Denver on March 16 to speak about the Colorado Clean Air Act and a possible statewide smoking ban, which was introduced in the state Senate the same day.
