Tobacco opponents moved another step toward winning approval of new restrictions on indoor smoking, as the state Senate endorsed a bill that prohibits lighting up in most indoor workplaces...

The measure, which the Senate approved 33-11 on Thursday after a brief debate, bars smoking in most workplaces and buildings that are accessible to the public.

Bars, tobacco stores and motel rooms that are set aside for smokers' use are exempted, as are enclosed areas of truck stops that are accessible only to adults.

The legislation now moves to the House, which may take it up as early as today.
