A number of state lawmakers still smoke, so the Legislature will have to decide how to respond to Gov. Mike Rounds' order banning all smoking on state property, legislative leaders said Monday.

The Legislature's Executive Board, which handles management issues for the Legislature, postponed any decision Monday.

But board members said the Legislature probably will have to adopt its own policy, which will determine whether lawmakers can continue to take smoke breaks on the Capitol steps or cross the street to nongovernment property before lighting up.
