The ashtrays that once dotted the landscape at the legislative office complex have been banished to a storage room It's a not-so-subtle reminder that smokers are now required to head outside of state-run buildings to light up.

Governor Bredesen earlier this week signed into law a smoking ban for Tennessee's 528 buildings _ 172 state-owned and 356 maintained and operated by the state.

Connie Frederick of the Office of Legislative Administration says she saw no reason to delay implementation of the smoking ban following the governor's signature.
