Bills seek to close smoking ‘loophole’ passes key policy committee

A measures by Asm. Jenny Oropeza, D-Carson, to help protect non-smokers from cancer-causing cigarette smoke, passed a key policy committee late today.

The Assembly Governmental Organization bill approved AB 2555, The California Paycheck Fairness Act of 2006.

As proposed, AB 2067 Smoking in Common-Use Areas, would add common areas to existing regulations prohibiting smoking in the workplace and covered parking lots.

These common areas include lobbies, lounges, waiting areas, elevators, stairwells and restrooms.
