Breathe easy in Maryland as smokefree law goes into effect

What could be a better way to kick off your weekend than by celebrating Maryland's new 100% smokefree law at your favorite local restaurant or bar?

Maryland's smokefree air law goes into effect on Friday, February 1st, after years of hard work at the local and state level. The law brings smokefree air to all enclosed workplaces and public places in the state, including restaurants, bars, and private clubs.

Congratulations to everyone who has worked tirelessly over the years to bring smokefree air to all of Maryland's workplaces. This statewide smokefree victory follows years of hard work to enact strong local smokefree laws that cover nearly 40% of Maryland's population, including laws in Montgomery County, Prince George's County, Takoma Park, Kensington and Rockville.

Be sure to tell employees and owners at your local businesses how much you enjoy their smokefree environment. They will appreciate hearing your feedback and be confident that this law is a positive step towards a healthier, happier, and more prosperous Maryland. You can also write a Letter to the Editor of your local newspaper in support of the new law.
