It's been two months since the controversial statewide smoking ban took effect, and another blow has been dealt to those who want to light up in local bars and restaurants.

Restaurant co-owner and State Del. Joseph "Sonny" Minnick (6th District), introduced a bill that, had it passed, would have allowed outside enclosures like patios and movable walls to accommodate smokers.

The bill failed March 27 in a 10-8 vote in the House Economic Matters Committee on which Minnick serves, he confirmed.

After introducing the bill, Minnick said, he took some heat and was accused of attempting to erode the anti-smoking bill.
