A smokefree New Mexico? Call the Governor with your support.

Publication Date: 2007-03-09

After two unanimous committee endorsements and a unanimous vote three weeks ago by the House of Representatives in support of smokefree air in New Mexico, ANR is thrilled to report that last night, the New Mexico Senate passed the Dee Johnson Clean Indoor Air Act (House Bill 283) by a vote of 27 to 9. If signed into law, all New Mexico's restaurants and bars would be cleared of secondhand smoke.

We are close, but smokefree air hasn't crossed the finish line yet. We need your help during this final leg in the race to ensure that the governor signs HB 283 into law.

What can you do to bring 100% smokefree air to New Mexico?

1) It's easy! Just call Governor Bill Richardson's office today at (505) 827-3000.

2) Encourage him to "Please sign HB 283, the Dee Johnson Clean Indoor Air Act," into law because it would bring smokefree air to all restaurants and bars in the state and protects local communities right to further strengthen the law at the local level. You will likely be leaving a message, which is just fine. Every message will be counted!

We must make sure that the Governor understands that his constituents (that's you!) overwhemingly support making all New Mexico's restaurants and bars 100% smokefree. Thank you!
