Legislative Summary

SB1036 - (task force) - An Act relating to smoking - Session Adjourned

The committee substitute was adopted that wiped out the original bill and instead calls for a task force to study smoking in public places. This bill amends the current state law to remove some existing exemptions for: smoking rooms in government buildings and other workplaces; bars; bingo; retail tobacco stores; owner operated or family businesses; non-public businesses operated only by smokers; and private offices. Smoking is still allowed in cigar bars, which can be allowed inside of other establishments if ventilated. Smoking rooms and areas are allowed in restaurants until 2010.
