Smoking bill fails in House

A proposed ban on smoking within 25 feet of public playgrounds failed Wednesday.

The state banned smoking in restaurants and bars two years ago and supporters said this would help children avoid the dangers of second-hand smoke.

"This bill just expands the protection to some very important people, our children," said state Rep. Kathleen Russell, D- Stratham.
