Nebraska is set to become the 16th state to go smoke free.

A statewide smoking ban takes effect on June 1st, barring smoking in indoor public places and workspaces.

Exemptions to the ban include up to 20 percent of hotel rooms, tobacco-only retailers, facilities that do research on the health effects of smoking and private residences.

Also, a bill signed last month by Governor Dave Heineman exempts cigar bars. But only cigars, not cigarettes, could be smoked there. That exemption doesn't go into effect until September.
